EFR-PDC

The Enhanced Full Rate Personal Digital Cellular (EFR-PDC) narrowband speech codec operates at 6.7 kbps and is used in PDC systems. PDC is a 2G mobile telephony standard used exclusively in Japan. PDC is being replaced by 3G technologies, but it is still widely used: in December 2005, there were still over 45 million subscribers, down from a peak of nearly 80 million.

The EFR-PDC codec is included as one of the modes of AMR, the mandatory 3GPP standard codec for narrowband speech communications in 3G networks.
