VoiceAge selected by Sony Ericsson
Multimedia Playback Capability to be provided for Sony Ericsson Java SDK

VoiceAge today announced that its SPOT xde® content adaptation platform has been selected by Sony Ericsson to provide the rendering and display of multimedia content within the new release of the Sony Ericsson Java SDK (Version 2.0), the software development kit used for Sony Ericsson MIDP2 Java-enabled handsets.

The SPOT xde® component powers the display of multimedia content within the SDK, and implements the world renowned VoiceAge codecs for audio, video, images and text. Seamlessly integrated within the SDK, the SPOT xde® library supports multimedia rendering that is compliant with specifications from the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The Java SDK, based on the Java 2 Micro Edition standard (J2ME), contains everything needed to build and test applications for the Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

“We are very pleased with our selection of VoiceAge”, said Ulf Wretling, Director, Head of Content Development, Sony Ericsson. “VoiceAge understands the challenges that can exist with mobile media adaptation, and so their expertise lends itself well to the goal of ultimately creating a great user experience. Sony Ericsson’s new SDK will facilitate this. By fast-tracking leading-edge tools and capabilities to the application development community, through vehicles like our new web portal Sony Ericsson Developer World, we will be assured of bringing the most advanced multimedia content and applications to the market.”

Laurent Amar, President of VoiceAge Corporation, said, “This successful project has been a great first collaboration, and we are excited about working with Sony Ericsson on this and other solutions that contribute to the enhancement of mobile multimedia services. The synergy is powerful and dynamic; our experience with codecs and interoperability combines well with Sony Ericsson’s innovative approach. Such use of our SPOT xde® Media Platform once again demonstrates the versatility of the VoiceAge content adaptation technology, while enforcing our commitment to mobile standards.”
